Showing posts with the label fantasy

June TBR

So I have been in a fantasy mood lately. I think it may have to do with Summer Reading at the library because our theme is dealing with fantasy and science fiction. With that being said, I used my library and gathered a bit much of some fantasy books. I am going into them blind which I prefer because I want the whole concept of the book to (hopefully) blow me away. I have a few romance thrown in as well :) It's my birthday month so hopefully these books treat me well!   The city of Bulikov once wielded the powers of the gods to conquer the world, enslaving and brutalizing millions — until its divine protectors were killed. Now, Bulikov’s history has been censored and erased, its citizens subjugated. But the surreal landscape of the city itself, forever altered by the thousands of miracles its guardians once worked upon it, stands as a haunting reminder of its former supremacy. Into this broken city steps Shara Thivani. Officially, the unassuming young woman is just another...

Book Review: Thief of Lies by Brenda Drake

( I received this ebook by the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review) Goodreads Summary:  Gia Kearns would rather fight with boys than kiss them. That is, until Arik, a leather clad hottie in the Boston Athenaeum, suddenly disappears. While examining the book of world libraries he abandoned, Gia unwittingly speaks the key that sucks her and her friends into a photograph and transports them into a Paris library, where Arik and his Sentinels—magical knights charged with protecting humans from the creatures traveling across the gateway books—rescue them from a demonic hound. Jumping into some of the world's most beautiful libraries would be a dream come true for Gia, if she weren’t busy resisting her heart or dodging an exiled wizard seeking revenge on both the Mystik and human worlds. Add a French flirt obsessed with Arik and a fling with a young wizard, and Gia must choose between her heart and her head, between Arik's world and her own, before both...

Book Review: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Mass

Goodreads Summary:  When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world. As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it... or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever. I could not put this book down whatsoever!! Wait, I lied I did have to put it down because this thing called Life would not let me have all the feels of this book like I wanted to.  I haven't read a good fantasy book in a good minute and this was a good one to remind myself w...

Book Blitz: In The Eyes of Madness and Author Q&A

Guest Post and Interview with Louise Herman!

I'm very happy to host a very talented author on Highway-Y.A.  Louise Herman is the author of five books that have received great reviews. For more information on her works you can look for the links at the end of the post. First we will have the interview and flow right to the guest post. The topic for the guest post is Valuable Feedback vs Troll Reviews. Enjoy!! Interview Questions 1.) What would you say is your interesting writing quirk? I’m not sure if you could call it an interesting writing quirk, but I have to listen to music when I write because it helps me concentrate. It is quite common for me to go to my Bjork, Limp Bizkit, NIN or Machine Head collections if I need inspiration for a fight scene or to my Ellie Goulding, Evanescence and Eurythmics selections to help me create a magical or romantic passage. If I do not have music on, I can get distracted very easily and it would take me longer to complete the task at hand. 2.) Where do you get your i...

Book Review: Ironbound Kisses by Jessica Walsh

I received this free book in exchange for an honest review Goodreads Summary:  Don’t talk to him. For all intents and purposes, he doesn’t exist. Thomas knows the rules when he takes a job with the circus, but he can’t stop thinking about the strange young man hidden away in the manager’s trailer. After a chance meeting with Isle, Thomas is even more intrigued, despite Isle’s warnings. As his obsession with Isle grows, Thomas vows to solve the mystery surrounding him and rescue him from his prison. But nothing is what it seems—especially not Isle—and Thomas is left unable to trust his own mind. Amidst the sparkles and illusions of the big top, Thomas can’t tell whether the spell he’s falling under is love… or something very different. He just knows he has to have Isle, and he’ll do things he never imagined himself capable of to get him.   Reading this story did not disappoint at all. I really enjoyed reading this book and it is the first book that I have...
