Book Review: Chaser by Kylie Scott

Goodreads Summary:  Given his well-earned bad boy reputation, Eric is having a tough time scoring.. When single Jean moves to town, she seems heaven sent by the sex gods. Only problem is, she not only wants nothing to do with him, but it turns out that she's pregnant. Starting over in a small town, Jean is determined to turn her wild lifestyle around and be the kind of mother she always wished she'd had. Since local bar owner and all round hottie, Eric Collins, is now determined to steer clear of her pregnant self, it should be easy. When she goes into labour during a snow storm and her car slides on some ice, it's Eric who comes to the rescue. There seems to be a bond between them now, but is it enough? And can Eric give up his manwhore ways to be the man Jean needs?   This is book three of the Dive Bar Series and I hate that it has ended. I absolutely love Kylie Scott's books! She is one of my favorite New Adult Authors.  This last installment is E...

Book Review: Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Goodreads Summary:  Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world . . .  Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game. Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over. But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Book Review: Scythe by Neil Shusterman

Goodreads Summary:  Thou shalt kill. A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control. Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own. I just finished the book and I had to hurry and write down my review before I forgot. This story is about a dystopian world that does not experience natural death, sickness, or anything of that nature. That means with mortality outdone the world's population is growing. To handle this Scythes are appointed to be the bearer of death which is called gleaming (killing) Rowan and Citra are two teenagers that are chosen to be Scythe's apprentices under the m...

Book Review: The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

Goodreads Summary:  Fast-paced and addictive, THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR announces a major new talent in thriller writing. You never know what's happening on the other side of the wall. Your neighbour told you that she didn't want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn't stand her crying. Your husband said it would be fine. But now they're in your home, and who knows what they'll find there. What would  you  be capable of, when pushed past your limit? Trying to review this book will be a tad bit difficult because of trying not to give away major spoilers and some of those spoilers h...

Book Review: Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Goodreads Summary:  My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster. I loved this book! It was beautiful, innocent, and a life adventure. Maddy suffers from SCID meaning she is highly allergic to everything. She basically can't leave the house for anything because it could be fatal to her. Her Mother is the only constant in her life after he...

Book Review: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan (Mangus Chase bk1)

Goodreads Summary:  Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . . This is my third book that I have read by Rick Riordan. I only read book 1 and 2 of the Percy Jackson series and it was so long ago that I would n...

Book Review: This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

Goodreads Summary: There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab ,  a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books. Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt...

Book Review: The One by Kiera Cass

Goodreads summary:  The time has come for one winner to be crowned. When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.   My feelings toward this book is a lot different than the first two. America is still not the most likable character to me but I liked her a whole lot better in this one. The writing was better with this story and I actually didn't want to throw the book across the room.  I wished that the whole idea with the rebels were a bit more detailed and drawn out especially towards the end. I felt the ending was rushed a bit but I did like the way it ended with Maxon and America. I liked that Aspen got his happily ever after as well...
