Who is Emily Eck?

Emily is a Midwestern Gal hailing from the United States, but could be anywhere as you read this. Currently residing in Mexico, adventure feeds her soul, and offers great writing material. She loves kids and working with kids, but can only handle caring for four-legged furry friends. A crazy dog and laid back cat have trained her to be their partner in life. After coming from a snowy climate, Emily and the animals are loving the sun Mexico has to offer each and every day. Vices include Swedish Fish, ignoring chores in favor of reading, and caring too much for people in her life. She chose to write this bio in third person as she is an Aries, and found writing in first person ended up with her writing an excessively long life story. Aries like to talk about themselves. It is something Emily is working on being more mindful of. You can contact her on any of the social media platforms below and she will respond, as her mom gave her the gift of gab.

Book Review: The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost

Goodreads Summary: In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.

Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse;her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who's bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between.

The first in a stunning new series, this is New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost at her dazzling, inventive best.

This is the first book in the Broken Destiny Trilogy by Jeanine Frost. This story opens in Bennington, Vermont. Ivy is looking for her missing sister which Bennington happens to be the last place her sister was seen. All through out her life Ivy has been having visions that she has not been able to explain which leads her to seeing doctors and taking medication. Even though none of that works she still have the visions but does not tell anyone that they are still occurring. After her accident at the B&B she goes back to her hotel and their she meets Adrian. He opens a world to her about her visions that she had no idea existed and what her fate is.

What I liked about this story was how it got right to the point but not in a bad way without giving everything away at the very beginning. It was a page turner from the first page until the end. Ivy's character was very interesting to read about. I loved her no BS attitude and how she takes action even though she may not come out on top she still does not give up.

Adrienwas full of secrets and I was dying to find out what he is. It was those moments when he would open up just enough and then close off at the last second. I understood why he was secretive and a part of me had hurt for him because it was nothing that he had brought upon himself. It was passed down.

Ivy and Adrien were good together but it took me a moment to connect to them together. It was instant but it didn't hope right into the I Love You's. It played out throughout the story.

There was a bit of both paranormal and biblical background added into the story which I thought was neat. Overall I enjoyed reading this story and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Book Review: Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer Armentrout

Goodreads Summary: Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

Reading this book has be going in so many different directions! In my White Hot Kiss review I pretty much established where I wanted to go and who's side I was on. With Layla being part warden and part demon I wanted her to embrace the latter. Upon reading this book some of my feeling are in the air.

In this story there is a mystery that has everyone one wondering or some. Zanye and Roth have to work together for the sake of Layla and then there are some lies in between the two of them. This book was centered mostly around Layla and Zayne's relationship. She trust Zayne with everything but she knows deep down that she can be herself with Roth. Some situations that occurred in the story proved that (not going to spoil it :)).  I did feel that Layla had some serious moments where she needed to "grow up" and I hope that in the next installment she is a bit more mature. Still, I love her.

Now for a bit fangirling. I honestly can't decided where this triangle is going. Through the story I was all for happy for Zayne for stepping up and showing Lalya just how he felt
HINT: CAR SCENE
Then I remembered I hate love triangles. I knew that Layla still had strong feelings for Roth and that part of her would never go away no matter how hard he tried to push her away from him and vice versa.
HINT: THE BEDROOM SCENE.
She didn't quite know which direction to take.
Roth still had his bad boy charm (which I loved) but there is a much softer side of him that is displayed from the story. He and Zayne both have the same thing in common and that is Layla. Everyone one is trying to figure out the answer to the big question "Who will she be with?" As I said before, I can't decide.

(SIGHS) The ending.  I turned to page on my kindle and when I saw it go to the Amazon page my jaw hit the floor. It could not end like that...it..just couldn't. I have to wait until the July of 2015 to get my hands on the next book.

Overall I loved reading Stone Cold Touch and all of it's goodness.

Excerpt:

Without consciously making a decision to do so, I grabbed my robe and headed for the door. If the thief was in the house, it might be my chance to identify him or her. One last glance at the globe showed the black was now mixed with a lot of orange. It looked like a Halloween decoration.

I turned off the light in the room, then quietly unlocked and opened my door. A flashlight would be a big help, but mine was packed in my suitcase. This was the first time I’d needed it. I eased out into the dark hall. A nightlight plugged in at the top of the stairs made a dim glow and I started in that direction. Moving slowly, I listened intently for any unusual noise. Everything seemed quiet and peaceful. I didn’t think anyone had stayed overnight in the house except Naomi and me. The stairs were solid and didn’t make a sound as I crept down. Time moved in slow motion and it seemed to take forever to reach the bottom. Once there, I began making my way to the living room. We always turned off the electronic security on that door at night since there were no potential buyers coming in and out after five. Even though I still hadn’t seen anything suspicious, somehow the atmosphere seemed wrong. Danger seemed to lurk in every dark corner. I was anxious to make sure the items displayed for viewing hadn’t been disturbed. Moving into the room and closing the door seemed to take forever. I couldn’t wait to get the light turned on. At first glance everything looked fine. Walking around the items for a closer look, I still didn’t see any evidence of tampering. Maybe I was overreacting and chasing ghosts. I decided to return to my room, but instead I veered into the study for a quick look. I wasn’t quite ready to admit my fears were just my nerves playing tricks. This time I hadn’t done the smart thing and called for Dan. He had to be tired of my crying wolf and not finding any evidence. I’d need a darn good reason before choosing to disrupt the entire household again.

At first the study also seemed undisturbed, but as my eyes adjusted, my heart skipped a beat. Someone had pushed the button that moved the desk aside. The light on the stairs leading down into the passageway had been turned on. Someone had entered the house, but I couldn’t call Dan from here and didn’t want to lose the chance to discover the identity of the intruder. All of a sudden my policy of not crying wolf didn’t seem so wise. I picked up a large letter opener from the desk and started down the stairs. The cloying feeling of danger increased with each step. The second bookcase on the left hand side of the hall was moved aside, revealing a passage I hadn’t known existed. The walls in this new passage were lined with artwork. Creeping silently along, I noticed that the art consisted of a variety of styles. At a quick glance I saw pen-and-ink, charcoals, watercolors and oils. I wouldn’t know what all was there until I had time to investigate. Right now my attention was focused on finding out who was down here and why. The passage climbed steadily upward. There didn’t seem to be any side doors, at least none that were obvious, until the end of the passage. Here one door opened to the right. By now my sense of direction had become confused and I wasn’t sure what part of the house this passage ran through, but it might be somewhere on the second floor.

About the Author
Given my love for cities and all that is gritty, my new obsession with trees really has me stumped. (Sorry.) Maybe it's because trees are the inspiration behind my new YA/NA novel, theLETTING.

Whatever the reason for my new infatuation, some things remain constant -- like my love for: coffee (although sadly, it's now decaf); yoga; Luna bars (I am petitioning for them to bring back Chocolate Raspberry!); running in my neighborhood; Hemingway; Bukowski... and, above all, my husband and my girls.

I am the author of the bestselling novel, Sleeping With Mortals: The Story of a New York Mistress, and I'm also a playwright. I have my B.A. in English and my M.A. in Theatre.
