Book of the Day #5 Deception by C.J. Redwine

Baalboden has been ravaged. The brutal Commander's whereabouts are unknown. And Rachel, grief stricken over her father's death, needs Logan more than ever. With their ragged group of survivors struggling to forge a future, it's up to Logan to become the leader they need—with Rachel by his side. Under constant threat from rival Carrington's army, who is after the device that controls the Cursed One, the group decides to abandon the ruins of their home and take their chances in the Wasteland.

But soon their problems intensify tenfold: someone—possibly inside their ranks—is sabotaging the survivors, picking them off one by one. The chaos and uncertainty of each day puts unbearable strain on Rachel and Logan, and it isn't long before they feel their love splintering. Even worse, as it becomes clear that the Commander will stop at nothing to destroy them, the band of survivors begins to question whether the price of freedom may be too great—and whether, hunted by their enemies and the murderous traitor in their midst, they can make it out of the Wasteland alive.

In this daring sequel to Defiance, with the world they once loved forever destroyed, Rachel and Logan must decide between a life on the run and standing their ground to fight

Book Revew: Henrietta the Dragon Slayer(The Five Kingdoms #1) by Beth Barany

Disclaimer: I was sent this free ebook by the author in exchange for an honest review

Henrietta, the legendary Dragon Slayer of the Kingdom of Bleuve, can't stomach the thought of one more kill. Yet, in order to save her dying mentor, she must go on one last quest. But will misfit companions, seasickness, and an ego maniacal king derail the quest for the healing stone? And will she be able to cut past her conscience and kill the dragon?
__________________________________________________________________________

Although I am not a big fantasy fan I did enjoy reading this book. I loved that Barany wrote Henrietta as a strong, independent, and no taking crap from anybody type of person. Anytime I read reviews or synopsis of a strong lead heroine it automatically has won me over. This story is about adventure and friendship.

Henrietta is on a quest to save her mentor that has fallen ill. Even though she never thought that she would go back she felt compelled to go and save him. Although she prefers to travel alone she has three other companions that are with her.

There is Framc the Knight. He is one of the first characters that is introduced at the beginning of the book. He was sent to get Henrietta for his king's wishes and he isn't taking no for an answer. At first I didn't like this character because he was very sarcastic and talked a lot of smack to Henrietta about "women can't do what men can do" kind of things. As the story went on I did enjoy reading about him.

Jaxter  the jester is probably my favorite character since we got introduced to him. I think if he were real we would be best friends.I know there would never be a boring moment! He keeps the group together. Basically he is the glue for them. He has a gift of story telling and he loves food! I love a guy that can cook :)

And finally we have Paulette who is a  witch in training. She kind of reminded me of the person that you would want to be around if you were having a bad day. It just cools you down

This was a good and quick read.I read it in one sitting!  Although I did feel that it was slow especially at the beginning while they were on their adventure. There were times it was getting boring but  I have a rule that once I start a book I finish it so I kept on reading and I'm glad that I did.

Book Review: Citizen by Natasha R. House

Disclaimer: I was sent this book by request of the author in exchange for an honest review.

Unfeeling eyes stare at Lend as he’s forced up against a metal contraption. A smile curls on the face of a blue skinned, bat-winged creature that towers above him. Blue electricity is pressed crudely to his face, and a voice slithers from the throat of the other worldly being. “There’s nowhere to run, human.”

Lend, wrenched away from his home in the wild loses everything in one eternal moment. Not only have these creatures, who call themselves Citizens, steal his world, now his freedom. Forced into the back of a speedcar the aliens take him to a warehouse. Ill fed, terrified humans huddle in the darkness waiting to be purchased by a Citizen. Losing all identity except the name human Lend fights to regain the freedom he, and his race have lost.

Purchased by the daughter of the most powerful Citizen on the planet Lend finds his world churning. The female Citizen shows him a new side of the alien race who he believed was incapable of love or trust. Jealousy rages in her relationship with her future mate, and Lend runs from the killer inamorato. With the threat of being burned alive, Lend collides straight into a force beyond his control. Does he have what it takes to become a savior? Or will he be enslaved at the hands of the powerful beings who corrupted our world.

***********************************************************************************
I enjoyed reading this book. Natasha introduced us to a future earth that is inhabited by aliens that are called Citizens. The humans that are on earth have lost all freedom and are slaves. Two things that really stood out for me was the introduction and how the story is told from different point of views.
To me, the introduction is setting of the story. I liked the fact that it got right to the point and it engaged you in the moment. You felt what the character was feeling. The emotions that was playing through increased your interest to continue reading the story. So cudos for that!

The story is told from different POV through out the book. It is good that we get to see the story from other characters.

Lend who is the human slave of Lilia (the Citizen). He was captured from the "Wild" as the Citizens say and brought to the city to become a slave for them. At the beginning we see the struggle that he has to adapt to his role as being a slave to a Citizen (who wouldn't). I was able to feel and understand his anger towards Lilia. I really liked this character as I continued reading.

Lila is Lend's master. She is the daughter of Jeol which is the most powerful Citizen and owned Human Co which is the place where the humans were kept until a Citizen purchased them. Lila had this constant struggle with what is right and obeying the laws. To me, she is the type of person that would try to please everyone except herself and not follow her heart. I loved how her character was able to see beyond what was right in front of her.

Morthane is Lila's brother and he owns Human Co. He is the first Character that we are introduced to. He is unhappy with his life and it shows. Into the story my heart went out to him because just like his sister he is going through that constant battle of what is right and obeying the laws.

Jodge is Lila's inamorato (boyfriend) and he is just a big jerk. He despises humans and treats them like dogs which is what they actually call them. ughhh!

Overall I enjoyed reading this book although I did feel that the ending was rushed but it still was great. Thanks to the author Natasha House for letting me read and review this for her.

When I saw that I was nominated for this award by Ms. Nichole Patrow  at The Bookish Fairy I was super excited! This means a lot to me. As I said I am all new to blogging but I love it soo much! So thank you for nominating me!!

If you are looking for more information on the Liebster Award go to Adrienne's Blog. She links her to where she got the information. I took my rules from The Bookish Fairy.

  • Answer the questions they set for the blogs they nominated.
  • Nominate 10 blogs of your own, and be sure to let them know, with a link to your post!
  • Ask 10 questions for the blogs you nominate to answer in their post.

    1. How long have you been blogging? I started this summer at the end of June so I would say for about 5 months.

    3. Are you an avid reader or do you read in spurts? I am an avid reader. Especially when school is out I read all the time. I'm one of those people who has a book in my purse, in my car, and on my night stand. Also I have a kindle with a million books on it. So yea, i'm an avid reader
    4. If you could be any animal, what would it be? A swan. They are soo beautiful and graceful.
    5. What is your all time favorite book? The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. If you have not read them I think you really need to .
    6. Do you always read the books that are popular at the time? (For example, the Divergent trilogy is pretty popular right now) or do you read them "when you get to them?" It depends on how good they really are. Honestly I have not read Divergent. I will read the trilogy but it will be when it dies down. So I guess that would make me at "when I get to them"
    7. Current book boyfriend/girlfriend? Daemon Black from the Lux series! Oh My Goodness!! I tell people that my perfect boyfriend is in a book
    8. Favorite book heroine? Violent Eden from the Embrace Series. She literally kicks major butt in those books

    10. E-book, Paperback or Hardcover? Hardcover. I love my kindle but I have to charge it and I don't have to charge books. I'm picky about paperbacks. The only reason I like them is because they can fit into my purse for that quick reading.

Book of the Day #3 Everneath by Ashton Brodi

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.

Everneath is a captivating story of love, loss, and immortality from debut author Brodi Ashton.

    Onyx by Jennifer Armentrout

This is the second book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I don't even know where to begin with this review other than to say that this book was FREAKING AMAZING!!! From the very beginning it was very fast paced with twist and turns throughout the entire book. I loved the character Katy, although there were times I was thinking: "Girl, just get over it and take him." Daemon is obviously in love with her and wants to prove it, but it seemed that every time he tried she would think back to him being the jerk that he WAS but is not anymore. So yea... there were times I wanted to strangle her.

First of all it starts out right where Obsidian left off. Daemon is being irresistible, of course, and Katy tries to stay away from him believing that it is his alien "mojo" that the attraction is coming from. At the beginning of the book there isn't much action but it builds and builds until you are looking like a terrible, gushing wind just came out of nowhere and just  knocks you out and left you with your bottom lip literally touching the ground. Even though Katy made some mistakes she learned from them and it also made her and Daemon closer. New characters are introduce and we see a really sweet soft side from Daemon. Even though he and Katy still argue and occasionally want to strangle the living daylights out of each other - there is no denying the attraction that is there.

Blake comes in the picture and it's like a battle of the chest. I'm sure Katy was suffering from overbearing testosterone. Daemon does not like Blake at all and I'm sure if he could throw him over the Grand Canyon and say he slipped, he would. Daemon was so funny, always call Blake other names that started with a B knowing full well that he knew his real name. Sorry Blake but seriously there is no competition there.

    "Kitten" he growled roughly.
I kissed him softly, sliding my hands into his silky locks, letting the pieces slide through my fingers. I tasted him in him my own rising desire, my own need and heartache. Thrilling. Frightening. I pulled back.
"Kitten," he said again, voice strained. "You don't get to do that and then stop.  That's not how it works."
I stared at him, my breath stalling in my lungs.
"Not when you're mine. Daemon backed us up and slid down the wall, pulling me onto his lap so i was straddling him. "And you're mine."

    "Say it."
    "Say what?" I asked.
"Tell me what you told me earlier".
My heart leaped in to my throat.  I'd told him a lot of things, but I knew what he wanted to hear. "I love you."
His eyes darkened a second before he kissed me until i was ready to say screw the whole doing-it-right-by-me-thing.  "That's all i ever need to hear."
    "Those three words?"
    "Always those three words."

Ok......breath. Take a deep breath and count to ten. Go ahead and give your self time to float back to earth after reading that.

I fell in love with this book from the moment I started reading it and have pronounced myself a book boyfriend *eeekkk*. Daemon is just a dream.

    Emblaze by Jessica Shirvington

OMY GOODNESS!!!!!...............JESSICA SHIRVINGTON YOU DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!.

I fell in love with this series ever sense I first saw the cover to Embrace and the goodness of it never failed me throughtout the series.

Once again Violet Eden faces an impossible choice ... and the consequences are unimaginable.

Violet has come to terms with the fact that being part angel, part human, means her life will never be as it was.

Now Violet has something Phoenix - the exiled angel who betrayed her - will do anything for, and she has no intention of letting it fall into his hands. The only problem is that he has something she needs too.

Not afraid to raise the stakes, Phoenix seemingly holds all the power, always one step ahead. And when he puts the final pieces of the prophecy together, it doesn't take him long to realise exactly who he needs in order to open the gates of Hell.

With the help of surprising new allies, ancient prophecies are deciphered, a destination set and, after a shattering confrontation with her father, Violet leaves for the islands of Greece without knowing if she will have a home to return to.

Just reading that makes my heart soar :)

Violet: She has grown up throughout the series to be a girl that you don't really want to piss off. Especially when it comes to the ones she love. She isn't afraid to put her life on the line and protect those who can't protect themselves. I really like Violet the best in this particular book. She pushes herself and it just shows the strength that she has. She is bad-*** all the way in Emblaze

Lincoln: I really found myselt wanting to shake the crap out of him. Violet was constantly showing her love for him and he would push her away. I get the whole thing about if something was to happen to either one of them, the other would be alive but not living(i hope that made sense) but its like they aren't really living if they don't have each other. This really put a strain on their relationship and it made things so much more complicated because they are in love. But he is still very protective of Violet and he cares even though his gaurds are up

Phoenix: In this book I was kinda rooting for Phoenix. I actually liked the bad guy. Now let me explain before you guys start to frown upon me. Deep down all Phoenix wants is to be loved. He is lonely and its just him against the world. In the previous books I didn't like him. After reading a chapter that told from his point of view I saw a whole new perspective of him. He loves Violet and there isn't a thing he wouldn't do for her. When he asked her to come with him on the rooftop I felt so bad for him. There is so much more but I'm not going to spoil it. you just have to read it and you will see why I liked him in this book.

Best Friends: Steph and Spence are just the best friends anybody could ever ask for. Steph being their for Violet and helping them along their Journey. She is also just the piece of humanity that Violet holds onto. Spence is the brotherly type for violet. He has her back and she has his. There isn't a thing that they wouldn't do for each other.

Overall this is a FIVE STAR RATING!!!! I enjoyed reading it sooooo much. I can't wait to get my hands on Endless because that cliffhanger at the end of Emblaze had me saying NOOOOOOOOO!!!! YOU....YOU CAN'T DO THAT but she is Jessica Shirvington and she can.

    Origins by Jennifer Armentrout

Ok. Let me just say that Jennifer Armentrout is the QUEEN OF CLIFFHANGERS. At the end of this book I was flipping pages and saying to myself that this cannot be it!!! There are soo many things going on plot wise and I wish I could give a review and not give anything away so I will try to give you all a good clear review. So for a brief summary about Origins. After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure. All Katy can do is survive. Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen? Together, they can face anything. But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on? And will they even be together?

First of all FYI don't ever get in the way of Luxen when he is on the rampage. When you come in between him and his love...lets just say you might not live to make it out. I'm just putting that out there. This book was by far my favorite in the series after the first one. It was action past from the begging all the way to the end. There was never a dull moment. I absolutely loved Daemon in this book. The things he would do for his Lady are just amazing. No one I mean NOONE gets in the way of him going for what he wants.

Katy is his sanity and without her he will go crazy. She is his life and he proves how much he needs her. Katy also endures so much in this book. The longer Katy stays held by Daedalus she feels a piece of her being taken away. She has to go through so much and is basically tortured into doing what it is that they want her to do.

The love that Katy and Daemon share for each other really touches you to the core. Even though their love was tested they always have each other back and are there for each other. Their love is the only piece of normal or simplicity they have that actually keeps them sane during all of the havoc that is going on. The things that they do just to protect one another is just breathtaking. *Also they get some very much needed time together heheheheheh.

Overall this was a great book and I give it a 4.5 stars. THE SUCK PART IS THAT I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER 2014 TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY MUST THIS HAPPEN!!!!!!!

While they live on each other’s periphery at school, Lily and Marijke never seemed to have much in common; but, after a coincidental meeting at the movie theater, Lily gets an idea – why can’t life be like a movie? Why can’t they set up their perfect romantic situations, just in time for their senior prom, using movie techniques?

Once the girls come up with the perfect plans, they commit themselves to being secret cohorts and, just like in the movies, drama ensues.

Book of the Day #2. If I shoud Die by Amy Plum

I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

Book of the Day: Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick

    Synopsis:
     Will love conquer all?

Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest. But in Hank's absence, Nora has become the unwitting head of the Nephilim and must finish what Hank began. Which ultimately means destroying the fallen angels - destroying Patch.

Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.

But the best-laid plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.

As the battle lines are drawn, Nora and Patch must confront the differences that have always been between them and either choose to ignore them or let them destroy the love they have always fought for.

    Muscle Mondays

    MUSCLE MONDAYS
I have given a long though on how I want to create a idea for a meme. I'm knew to blogging so I want to start slow and then we can work from that. I have one in mind that I want to try. This is one that I think would be really cool to participate in. It will be on Mondays. It will be called "Muscle Mondays". I will upload two book cover pictures and put a brief character description of the male leads in the book. You will then  pick your favorite "muscle" and leave a comment of  five reasons why he is your favorite and why he is better than his opponent. Then of course there are those male characters that are so droolworthy that you can't decide. That's ok! You can put down undecided but give five reasons why you are undecided about the characters. This meme will start next Monday which will be 11/19/13. All you have to do is link back to highway-y.a. on your own Muscle Monday .

Top Ten Covers We Wish We Could Redesign

This meme is hosted by . The Broke and the Bookish.

    1. The Hunger Games Series. This is a really great series but to be honest I didn't read the book because the cover of it did not look like it would be interesting. I read the book after I saw the movie and when the hype of it was still at its high.

    2. Beautiful Creatures. A friend actually asked me to read this book with her. I absolutely loved the book but the cover screams help. I didn't particular like movie. But the story is so good.

3.Delirium by Lauren Oliver. This cover is so boring and the only reason why i had even picked it up was because I was scanning over it for work.

4.Prophecy by Ellen Oh- I hated the cover but it was a good read

    5. Angel Fire by L.A. Weatherly- I loved loved loved this series but i felt the cover looked dated and it reminded me of on of those very old romance paper back books.

    6. Hades by Alexandra Adornetto- I felt the cover of this book could have been more sinister looking if that is the right word for it. "The main character is basically in hell the whole time. This cover could have been a lot darker.

    7. Flight by Alyssa Ivy- This is one of my favorite series. I can tell you more about this series if you would like. Click here. I love the characters in this series. It was one of those that you felt you were a character right along with them. This cover could have been changed to something of the nature of the book. It looks like the artist ran out of time.

    8. Forever Altered- The chemistry of this book was really great and i felt the cover was taking alot away from the book itself. It was good but it wasn't to where I had to get the book as soon as I saw the cover kind of thing.

    9. Ruined by Paula Morris- I really like this series but i felt the cover was just to plain. It could have been a lot darker and more gothic to go with the storyline

    10. The Archived by Victoria Schwab- I liked this book because it was different from some other books that i read. The cover just shows a picture of a girl and smoke and that is it. It is a mystery/suspense book and the cover could have delivered more to add to the affect of the story.

    Perfect Ruin By Lauren Destefano

Then a murder, the first in a generation, rocks the city. With whispers swirling and fear on the wind, Morgan can no longer stop herself from investigating, especially when she meets Judas. Im Back....YAYYYY!!

I am so happy that I am now able to do some reading and blogging. I am so sorry that I have not been on here at all. I have been so busy with school its crazy. This semester has really got me just worn out. The only things that I have been reading are things for school and literally my weekends consist of nothing but studying. Things are changing for NOW lol. This semester is almost over. I have about a week and a half left but things have slowed down to where I can do some reading and blog about it because I missed it soo much. Right now I am getting ready to read "Endless" by Jessica Shirvington and after that "Origin" by Jennifer Armentrout. I have seen those babies check out at the library and on my "whats hot" shelf and I have been wanting to get my hands on them. I'm so excited right now I want to scream lol. As soon as I finish reading them I will let you all know my thoughts and what I loved or hated (like I'm going to hate them) about the books.

May the force of reading be with you....

    Another Movie?!?!?!

Right now I am just FLOORED!! My favorite book series are just making it to the big screen. I am having to find myself stepping back, gathering myself, and just taking a deep breath. But keep in mind I am screaming on the inside. GOOD LORD HALLELUJAH SWEET ALIEN BABIES!!!From "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare to the "Fallen" Series by Lauren kate and now this?!?! I happen to be at work and I am pretty sure I will get people staring at me like I have literaly lost my mind.

So after all of this rambiling....drum roll...........

THE LUX SERIES IS GOING TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE!!

As you all know Daemon Black is my book boyfriend *girl giggles*. I cannot wait to see him in this movie. As more info comes up I will let you know as soon as I find out and believe me I will be keeping my nose sniffing for this.

As of now you can visit Jennifer Armentrout blog on goodreads.com

The Fallen Series by Lauren Kate has just been anounced that they will offically be making it to the BIG SCREEN. Who's happy? I know i am. There are four books in the series which are Fallen, Torment, Passion, and Rapture. Some are dubbing this to be the next Twilight but I hope not. Its unique by itself. I love twilight also but I think this will be better. If you agree with me comment below or just leave some feedback about the books and the movie. There are so many scenes that I want to see being brought to life. Let me know what are your favorite scenes that you want to see.
